Porter family papers, 1890-1943 (bulk 1891-1909).

The documents of the Porter Family papers consist of correspondence, ephemera, newspaper clippings, books, pamphlets, photographs, diaries, ledger books and other materials. The majority of the materials concern the life of Albert L. Porter, newspaper reporter and editor. The collection also contains materials relating to Addie Randle, Porter's wife, Lester Porter, Porter's younger brother, and other Porter family members. The collection primarily concerns Porter's entry into the newspaper business beginning with his first job as a staff reporter on The Alliance Review, and his work as a freelance reporter in Pittsburgh, to his editorship of the Wilmerding News. In addition to documenting Albert L. Porter's career, the materials reflect the Porter family's religious and political beliefs. This collection also documents Addie Randle's education and teaching career.
